I forgot how fun it is to attend music
industry events. After my speedbump in the television industry, music became a second
love. So I didn't see it coming when I decided to check my mygtmagazine.com e-mail after
an, ::ahem::, few weeks (I know, I know... inexcusable. Why even bother?).
Anyway, I am getting on board with all of the reality television
contestants, who say it is a sign from God when they vote someone off. Only I am not on
reality TV, nor am I voting anyone off. Besides, what else does God have to do but worry
about the fate of a whiny contestant in SurvivorIdolBrotherRace... or whether or not I am
supposed to check my e-mail. Hey, it could be a concern!
Basically, something struck me (don't worry, I'm not hurt), and I
ended up checking my inbox in time for a listening party invite for Swizz Beatz (his new
album, "One Man Band Man" is due to release in a few weeks). After thinking
"Swizz Beatz? Is that not, like, totally me?", I called up Anna (who said,
"You do realize I work late?"), and then got ahold of my dear friend Petey who
took the invite. Suddenly, I was "Christina +1" for the event.
Long story not very short, attended the event, and had a blast.
We got goodie bags (a Swizz Beatz cookie? Don't ask!). Swizz is a really laid-back guy
(even if he did arrive in a Lamborghini with an entourage and a blinged-out watch, that IS
laid-back for a rapper). He entered the room, shook hands and said hello to everyone, and
mingled with the crowd.
As he played some of his favorite tracks from the album, (mine in
particular is an amazing collaboration he did with Coldplay), he asked the crowd
"What did y'all think of my video?" (his video for my new life theme song 'Money
in the Bank'). If there's one thing I hate, it's brussel sprouts. Oh, and when no one says
anything that leaves an awkward silence. So I avoid both. I don't eat brussel sprouts, and
I talk. And I did. I called out, "I loved the girl in the video's diamond high
heels." YES, I actually said it. C'mon... you wanted to know about those shoes too.
Swizz laughed, and without missing a beatz (sorry, couldn't
resist the pathetic pun), answered "I already saved a pair for you, girl."
MAN-ola Blahnik after my own heart. xoxo, CHRISTINA
