You've probably heard that boy bands are a dime a dozen. But, it's not often that you come across one whose personalities are genuinely authentic. Meet O-Town.

No, wait -- you already have. TV stars in their own rights, this quintet, who are masterminded by "Big Poppa" Lou Pearlman, have made peeping Toms' out of thousands of tube addicts by filming a "Real World"-style documentary based on the creation of the next big thing. Trevor Penick, Jacob Underwood, Erik-Michael Estrada, Ashley Parker-Angel, and Dan Miller are that five, who after many excruciating and seemingly endless cuts, were the chosen few. Not bad, considering they were five out of, oh...two-thousand.

gt magazine chats with the new and true boy wonders, during their six-week radio tour's stop at WiLD 95.5 in West Palm Beach, Florida...

gt.com: of course, there'll be those who say you're the next Backstreet Boys or 'N Sync. what will make you different from those artists?

JACOB:
Well, we all wrote music a lot before we came here, so on our first album, we're hoping that we'll look different coming in having our own stuff on the album. We play instruments, and we're different...

TREVOR:
We're not them...and we're culturally diverse!

gt.com: let us in your heads the day you found out you had made the final cut for the group. as you heard your name, what were your thoughts?

ASHLEY:
Trevor will answer this one!

TREVOR:
Why do I have to do it?

ASHLEY:
Because, you're the crybaby! I mean...the emotional one.

TREVOR:
I knew I had achieved my dream in life. It was such an emotional moment, especially since I was last [chosen]. For them to just say my name, it was amazing. After that, I just cried for two hours straight!

gt.com: it had to have been heart-wrenching to say goodbye to the other guys. how did you get through that situation?

ASHLEY:
It was really hard, because I roomed with Mike, who didn't make it. We would talk about how cool it would be to finally be in the position to have every single dream you've ever had come true. And, to know that you're on the verge of being one out of two-thousand guys. It was overwhelming! To have him pack his bags, and my stuff stay in the closet, it was really hard. We still keep in close contact with them, but it wasn't a celebration...bittersweet is the perfect word. We're happy we made it, but we were sad to see Bryan, Mike, and Paul go.

gt.com: was there ever a time when you forgot the cameras were focused on you?

ASHLEY:
Yeah -- one time, I had boxers on, and I jumped up on the dining room table. And, the guys were putting dollar bills in my boxers! It's on camera, but I don't think it'll make the show...

TREVOR:
You hope!

DAN:
Also, one time, the camera guy caught Ashley naked...he left the camera on! He told Ashley he was turning it off, and Ashley proceeded to take all of his clothes off, [unaware] the camera was still on.

ASHLEY:
Needless to say, that's on home video tape.

ERIK:
Maybe we can sell it on eBay...

gt.com: what are the advantages of being a member of
the band?

ERIK:
Just to have four other guys to hang out with. I never had any brothers or sisters growing up, and now I feel like I have four brothers.

TREVOR:
It's an incredible feeling that we all share music together. And, we all have the same love.

JACOB:
We've been given the biggest platform that any band in history has ever had! With a TV show being put together the whole world knows us even before we were a band. We don't even have a single out, and we're doing a radio show! We have had the best opportunity...we've cut paths a lot in this industry. And, it's hard, because we get a lot of flack for it. But, we're lucky enough to be in this group.

gt.com: so, what would you consider the disadvantages?

TREVOR:
Exactly what Jacob was saying -- we're big before we even have a single out, so there are a lot of expectations for us to do well. A lot of added pressure on us!

ERIK:
Also, people look at us just as a cast for a television show. They don't know that when we auditioned for the group, we had no idea there was a TV show being taped. We auditioned to be in a vocal group and to make music. That's our primary focus and our first love! It's hard to get respect in this industry. There's a lot we have to prove!

DAN:
A lot of people think we're just a TV show and not a real band.

gt.com: you've already done a couple of shows, although you're a fairly new group. how have those gone?

TREVOR:
Unbelievable! The crowd loves us, because they've seen the television show, and they have this connection with us. People are already singing along to our songs...and they're not even on the radio!

ERIK:
Something interesting...every performance we've done, there's been something unexpected that we've had to maneuver around. On the Disney Channel Sizzlin' Summer Weekend, we performed for the first time on national television, and they only gave us four microphones and no soundcheck!

gt.com: any messages to your fans?

ASHLEY:
It's been so awesome that at each destination on our radio promotion tour, there's been fans waiting there for us. And, I wanted to say thank you very much, because it means a lot to us!

JACOB:
Dreams do come true!

gt.com: point proven. thanks for the interview!
