You could allege that, for Emma Roberts, the acting bug is in the genes. After all, with a father whose theatrical credits read as long as a sitcom script, and an Aunt who could indisputably be known on a first name basis, (that would be Julia, of course), it seems that "When?" was the only question in determining Emma's destined career. "If you set your mind to it, you can definitely do it," she told us from her Los Angeles home. And oh, how she has proven that mantra to be true; while most of her peers were still playing house, ten-year old Roberts made her big-screen debut in the fierce Johnny Depp flick, Blow.

That was all Emma needed to become addicted to acting; now fourteen, the budding star landed her first feature role on the small screen, playing spunky seventh grader Addie in the hit Nickelodeon show "Unfabulous." Which could read as kind of ironic, figuring with a career moving as swiftly as Roberts' is, would seem nothing short of fabulous. And, in a move similar to teen actresses Hilary Duff and Lindsay Lohan, Emma has tapped into her musical side and released "Unfabulous & More," a quasi-show tribute-slash-debut album spinning in tween CD players everywhere.

There's no question that the Roberts name is like Midas -- it has a golden touch. While we continue to watch Emma's career catapult, expect nothing less than success from the niece of you-know-who. In the latest gt magazine exclusive interview, find out which famous fictional detective Emma will emulate, her fascination with fashion, and what celebrity blonde she aspires to meet...

gt.com: being an average 14-year old is tough enough. being a 14-year old actress must be even tougher. how do you balance school and work, and still have time for fun?

EMMA: Well, I have a really great tutor that is usually on set. I have to get three hours of school done a day, and on the weekends I see my friends and just do normal stuff. So, I think I am doing a good job of keeping it balanced ::laughs:: I do miss being free all the time on the weekends, because I have to work or something.

gt.com: your aunt is the amazingly talented Julia Roberts. has she offered you any advice on handling Hollywood or does having a famous aunt place any pressure on you?

EMMA: No, I mean, I don't feel pressured or anything like that. I don't really ask for her advice, only because I haven't really needed any so far. Everything's good! I just kinda learned how to handle things myself. And my family and friends give me advice.

gt.com: everything has been good, we can definitely tell. now, unlike other child actresses, your film debut was an edgy rated-R flick, Blow, with Johnny Depp. why did this role appeal to you?

EMMA:It was my first audition, too! And it was just like they wanted to send me on an audition to see how it goes. Like, nobody really thought I would actually get the role on my first audition, so it was kinda a surprise to everybody. We just thought we would do it, because I wasn't around any of the inappropriate scenes, and it was Johnny Depp! I wanted to act with him and it was really cool!

gt.com: we can imagine! you play a character that is musically gifted on your Nickelodeon show, "Unfabulous." you also sang on the soundtrack for the show. any plans to pursue music on your own in the future?

EMMA: Well, actually I released an album a couple of weeks ago that's called "Unfabulous and More," which is a soundtrack for the show and has a few original song on it. When I'm a little bit older I may release another album. But right now I'm focusing on acting, and the soundtrack was just fun to do, because I sang on the show.

gt.com: speaking of acting, you are co-starring with singer JoJo in the movie "Aquamarine." during filming, what was your favorite on-set or off-set moment?

EMMA: It was me,  JoJo, and (actress) Sara Paxton, and all three of us would always hang out. And, Sara had to have blue streaks in her hair, like bold blue streaks. We'd be walking around and everyone would be looking at us. We'd be like "Why is everyone looking at us?" Then, we realized it was because her hair was blue! It was weird, because some people would like point at her, and she'd be like "I see you pointing at me!" So, it was kinda funny!

gt.com: hilarious! okay, you are definitely keeping busy. we hear you're also set to star as beloved fictional detective Nancy Drew in an upcoming film. can you tell us more about that?

EMMA: Well, I did just get cast to play Nancy Drew, so I'm really excited about that! I think we start filming early next year at some point. I didn't read any of the books when I was younger, but I'm actually reading one right now!

gt.com: hypothetically, if you weren't pursuing acting, what job would appeal to you?

EMMA: I really want to do something in fashion as well as acting when I'm older. So, if I wasn't doing acting, I'd probably have a fashion line or something like that.

gt.com: which celebrities have a fashion taste that inspires you?

EMMA: A bunch of people! I like the way Jessica Simpson dresses, I think she dresses really cute. Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, I like their style, also. And, Kate Bosworth, too!

gt.com: good choices! now, if you had the power to choose your next movie role and co-star, what and who would it be?

EMMA: Right now, I would really like to play a mean girl in a movie, because so far, I have played a really nice girl or the dork. I think that would be fun and different to do. My ideal co-star would probably be Matt Damon!

gt.com: that's interesting! how have your friends reacted to your success? have they been supportive?

EMMA: All of my friends are really supportive, which is great to have, because your friends are really important.

gt.com: absolutely! so, have you ever found yourself completely starstruck by a fellow celebrity?

EMMA: I don't really get all starstruck, but I was really excited to meet Hilary Duff. I met her at the Teen Choice Awards, and she was a really nice person. It was fun to meet her!

gt.com: very cool! now, who would you love to meet at this point in your career?

EMMA: That's a tough one! Probably Reese Witherspoon -- I love the movies she has done!

gt.com: definitely! now, take us through a typical day in the life of Emma Roberts.

EMMA: I have to get up really early in the morning, and I go to work. Then, I have go into hair, makeup, and wardrobe and all that fun stuff! Then, I have to go to school for a little while. After that, I go on set to work, eat lunch, and then I do more school. Then, I go home, watch TV, and talk to my friends.

gt.com: you're keeping busy, that's for sure! when your show is on television, can you watch yourself acting or is it just too weird?

EMMA: Sometimes I'll watch it, because my little sister always has it on when it is airing, but at first it was a little weird. Now, it's not as weird, just kind of...different!

gt.com: hehe, we can see how that would be! what advice would you give girls who aspire to be actresses?

EMMA: If you really want to act, you should definitely go for it. Don't say that you can't. I hear a lot of young kids say, "Oh, I really want to act, but I don't think I can."

gt.com: great advice, and you've proved it well. Thanks for the interview, Emma!
