It's true what they say -- makeup and its counterparts should be used to enhance, not cover up, your existing beauty. In honor of this lingo, we've put together an original guide to the family of faux. If you've ever been interested in a 'different' look for any occasion, read this...

"Are those real?" isn't always a bad thing in beauty. It means people notice. And, as long as you like it, it can be a self-confidence booster. But, is it always a bright idea? Certain beauty bluffers have many pros and cons; some more than others. It's always up to you to decide if it's right for your style. Of course, this vade mecum isn't bad to refer to in time of need...

THE DISH: False, hair-like whiskers are glued with adhesive in place of your normal lashes.
THE PROS: Glam look almost guaranteed, (perfect for the rocker chick in you). Ideal for special occasions.
THE CONS: Glue near your eyes? Can be unsafe. If used incorrectly, may look incredibly unnatural.

THE DISH: More hair is added by insertion into what you already have. Great for adding length and fullness.
THE PROS: Bigger, more beautiful, strands. You can share the secret of Britney Spears' stylists.
THE CONS: Confusing for beginners; can end up falling out if not properly attached. Costly. You can share the secret of Britney Spears' stylists.

THE DISH: When applied, the powder-like substance blends onto your face, creating a deeper skin tone, like you just went to the beach and tanned.
THE PROS: If you're prone to burning and paling again, it can work with your body chemistry and bring out the tan in you.
THE CONS: Streaks and spots could occur if used wrong. If extremely fair-skinned, unevenness from below the face can look obvious.

THE DISH: Using an adhesive and glue, (similar to the tools of false eyelashes), fingernails are added onto your natural nails. Also known as acrylics.
THE PROS: If you've had trouble growing your nails or are addicted to biting them, faux fingernails can help. Comes in an array of designs and colors.
THE CONS: Breeding ground for germs; a pain in the nails (literally) to remove. Leaves nails brittle and damaged with continuous use. Costly to keep up with.

Looking to save on your hair color by saving the unused portion from your last dye job? It's possible, explains cosmetologist RJ of Let's Do Lunch, a beauty devoted website. "Only if they have not been mixed with the developer. Save half used bottles of color in a cool, dark place. Keep them tightly capped, and they'll remain fresh for up to six weeks." She cautions, "But, remember: never save color you have mixed with developer. Once it's mixed, contents may burst, so use it up right away or toss it."

You've got the dish on the world of faux. Remember: no matter what you wear, always let your personality shine through. That's the part people will recall and be attracted to later on.
