You know the old wives' tales -- they revolve around everything health. No exception when it comes to the dreaded skin inflammation. Yes, we're referring to acne, zits, pimples...call 'em what you like, but it's infectious at any age under any alias. Join us as we clear the mothers' myths...

You've probably stumbled across the skin misconceptions more often than once. "Chocolate causes breakouts," (negative), "French fries conclude to zits," (inaccurate number two), etc. But, what about those other fables? Get out of gullibility and read on for a few myth-busters to put your best face forward...

Pimples do not mean the sufferer is dirty. In fact, it could mean the exact opposite! If you are one to wash your skin too often, it could result in dry skin which can later lead to a zit fit. A prime example? Blackheads are pores clogged with oil -- not dirt. And, no matter how much you scrub-a-dub-dub your facial features, you can't prevent those often-occurrences.

Unfortunately, this one's a definite "NO!" Keep your hands off your face; squeezing your zits can push more bacteria into the surrounding skin to cause even more breakouts on other parts of your face, (as if what you had before wasn't enough). Also, the same is said again and again: picking pimples causes permanent scarring, so let's leave those fingers to clicking on the keyboard, okay?

Well...you could, but then, why would you want to endure the pain and self-confidence deflator if you don't have to? Acne is treatable and can be lessened if the right product is used. Over-the-counter products not putting you in the clear? See your dermatologist, especially if your case is severe.

Sure, if the red-irritated-I-use-too-many-products look is in. The fact is, many lotions, toners, and skin-clearing remedies are a very rotten combination. Always check the back of the items to see what can and can't be used together. And, don't use more that two products at a time, (i.e. lotion and toner is okay, but lotion, oil, and toner can cause problems).

So, you've heard that certain foods can cause it...but what about not eating specific munchies? Extensive scientific studies have not found a connection between the two; rest easy. Besides, eating a well-balanced diet always makes sense, anyway. As long as you're treating the acne properly, eat and let eat! What can you snack on for a healthier glow? Lettuce and other green vegetables are known to keep skin looking fresh, as well as Vitamin C.
