people would be shocked to learn that...Back up, Backstreet: "I would actually want to be in a boy
band," Adrian admits. "I've never really told anyone that!" He insights us
on what came up to this observation: "When I worked with Michael [Jackson], I just
loved being on stage and singing." So, will we see a Will Smith replica, (actor-turned-musician)?
"I haven't pursued it," he says mysteriously.
my best friend
would describe me as..."The biggest baby," he
laughs. "I can be such a kid...in this business, sometimes you have to put on this
whole mature act." He resumes, "But, when it comes down to it at home, I'm a
little boy again!" Another case of the Peter Pan Syndrome, eh?
you know you're
famous when..."Someone comes up to you and starts
talking, and you think you've met them before, so you go along with it. The whole time,
you're wondering where you've met them before," he shares. "It all comes down to
the person saying, 'I just wanted to come say hello, because I've seen you on TV.'"
my mom hates it
when I..."This one works two ways," he
explains to us, slight humor in his voice. "She can't stand it when I spend a lot of
money, but then, when it's on something for her, she's fine with it!" Mother sure
does know best!
the question
I hate to be asked is...Although he'll surely be
hearing this inquiry more than once, he responds, "Who are you dating?" Adrian
reasons, "It's just something that I like to keep personal." Our lips are
sealed!

realist or dreamer? After much thought, Adrian took
his head out of the clouds. "I'm more of a realist. Even though I like to talk about
things that I hope will happen in the future, when it comes down to it, I just like to
have things in perspective." What does Mr. Armas predict for his career? "I'd
love to do my own film," he comments.
mandy
moore or jessica simpson? Almost instantly, his Sweet Kisses
went to Jessica Simpson: "Besides," he analyzes, "Isn't Mandy Moore fifteen
or something?" Too bad Ms. Simpson appears to be taken...
dancing or
acting? Even if dancing is what added his name on the Hollywood walk, his vote
leads in two directions: "Both -- I've been dancing since '97 professionally, and
I've just started acting recently." Some of his impressive credentials? Cher, Michael
and Janet Jackson. Not bad...
sandra bullock or julia roberts? He sure went for a Pretty
Woman with his quick response: "Definitely Julia Roberts," he returns.
"I just recently saw Erin Brokovich, and she is such an amazing
actress." Slyly, he also confesses that he wouldn't decline an on-screen smooch with
the movie masterette...
blondes or
brunettes? Being a dark-haired dude himself, the choice was of mirror image. Hair color
aside, what does Adrian, of Mexican heritage, prefer in a seņiorita? "A great sense
of humor -- that's very important to me. Honesty; very excited and into everything she's
doing or wants to do." Any takers?

i was scared to death at my GAP audition. Beep. Try again. In all his manliness, Adrian speaks this as
false: "I was having a great time, because I was mainly laughing at myself."
After much probing, though, he cracks: "The scary part was throwing the girl lead.
One time during shooting of the commercial, I actually did drop a girl. I felt so
bad!"
i can
remember the name of my first girlfriend. As if recalling from his past, Adrian
lets out a snicker. "That's true," he states. "It was in pre-school...her
name was Martha." Wonder if Martha remembers her playground companion via his GAP
stint?
i'd give up acting if I
was offered the slot as a backup dancer for my favorite musician. "I
have a passion for dancing," he explains. "But, there's something about being in
front of the screen that I love more." Guess even the King of Pop, (Mr. Jackson,
that is), couldn't even persuade Adrian to slip on his dancing shoes for that career
change.
audition rejections make me terribly upset. Who
wouldn't be? Adrian admits he reacts like any other: "At first, I would get a little
depressed." Continuing, he explains what gets him out of the rut: "I start to
rationalize. I think, 'They were probably looking for a blonde-blue-eyed guy, and that's
not me, so maybe that's why I didn't get it.' I try to talk myself out of it."
i'm so
adventurous, I'd bungee jump if given the opportunity. Apparently, he wouldn't
fly through the air with the greatest of ease: "I would be too afraid that the cord
would break!" Gaining composure, he treads on this thought: "I mean, I would
want to do it, but that whole scenario of the bungee breaking is holding me back."
Let's just leave "On Air" to the television production crew...
As with any
career choice, there is a constant see-saw of benefits and drawbacks, acting no exception.
On the sunny side, Adrian shares, "You get to bring experience to a character. [It's]
very liberating to take a trip in time to a different character; to be someone else. To
inspire someone, whether it be through a good experience or a bad one."
And, the stormy part? "Everyone knowing of you and staring
at you, but not really knowing who you are," he says adversely. "It's flattering
at times when people are staring at you, but I dislike not-so-subtle stares...it's like
there's something wrong with you." Has he experienced peering eyes often? "It's
happened a lot. I try not to think of it like that or not really dwell on the fact that
they're looking."
If you ask Adrian to dispose of his acting and side with a
different path of employment, expect a struggle: "I want to make this a lifelong
career and grow as a person and actor." Spoken in all seriousness, he concludes,
"I just want to do what I like to do for a long time. I'd rather not be famous and
have work then the opposite." No worries, Adrian...no worries. |
